Our History

Austica begins her history with a tale of wanton killings of two innocent persons: Late Augustine Eze and Late Scholastica Nnolim. Their death in defense of faith is what actually precipitated the concept of Austica as an institution to immortalize the two heroes of faith. It is indeed a further confirmation in our time that the blood of martyrs is the seed of the church.

Austica is a combination of the first names of Augustine Ezeh and Scholastica Nnolim who displayed heroic faith against superstitious pagan long practice in Nanka community. The age long primitive practice that a widow should not see the corpse of the deceased husband. The catholic church vehemently opposed this practice. The Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Awka Diocese led the fight against this obnoxious practice. Augustine Eze and Scholastica Nnolim were murdered in the course of the crisis that erupted in this regard at the burial of Reuben Ikeanibe on 23rd February, 1993, the two heroes were known to be very strong in faith and they had the zeal for the work of God.
